Hello all,

I'm aware that this place will have humble beginnings and likely a humble future. What I decided, though, was that I would put to use my love of writing and reflecting on various issues and channel it into something that could be potentially helpful for you. I often find myself debating others on Facebook or DeviantArt on matters of theological or philosophical significance and felt like it might be nice to have a more personal hub and potentially a more receptive audience--we'll see how well that all goes.

The title comes from something a professor told our class again and again: "You don't want to find yourself in the ditch with the devil. You can fall down there and get a little muddy, but when Christ walks by you don't want to be looking up. So pick yourself up and get back on the right road." I've probably butchered everything past that first line but I did appreciate the image.

The title should always try and give a good indication of the tone of the content. In my case I wanted to express that I find myself where many of us are found: constantly falling back in and out of old habits, ideas, and situations. At the same time we keep picking ourselves up and putting ourselves on the right path. Sometimes we need to be pulled up by Christ or a friend, other times we crawl on our bellies until we read the dry path.

In that sense that's what I'd like this blog to be, something that helps others get themselves out of the ditch (or perhaps see that they're in the ditch!).

This blog may become a little bit more or a little bit less than that vision but I hope to provide good, Catholic material as well as valuable reflections and critiques. Maybe some silly-stupid stuff for good measure.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this, future readers. I hope it will find you well,

M
